Golf Update – Ryan Palmer Wins the Sony Open
Ryan Palmer won the Sony Open by holding off three golfers that almost every golf betting fan in the world would have bet on instead of him.
Palmer’s 15 under was a stroke better than Robert Allenby’s 14 under, two strokes better than Steve Stricker’s 13 under and three strokes better than Retief Goosen’s 12 under. For his victory, Palmer garnered not only $990,000 but also 500 points in the FedEx Cup Standings.
Everything points to Stricker maintaining terrific form throughout this year. If he can finish well in the Bog Hope Classic, should he play, and then maybe do better in the FBR Open this year than he did last year, then Stricker will go into the Northern Trust Open as one of the favorites.
Stricker finished 2 nd in the NTO in 2009 to Phil Mickelson. Is Stricker fighting for the third best golfer in the world title? It looks like Stricker is aiming higher than that. He could be fighting for the title of second best or best (depending on what Tiger does) golfer in the world title if he keeps this up.
